Mr. Obeidat is a Jordanian national
admitted to the Jordan Lawyers Bar Association
and is a Partner at Al Tamimi & Co.
Mr. Obeidat has obtained his LL.B degree
in 1996 from Yarmouk University, Jordan, and his
LL.M. degree in 1997 from the University of
Georgia at Athens, USA. His main field of
specialization is in intellectual property laws,
consumer protection and free trade issues in the
UAE and also in the Arab region.
Mr. Obeidat His experience in this field
started at Abu Ghazaleh Legal Services in Jordan
in 1997 where he was mainly a trademark attorney
until he headed their Intellectual Property
Department in 1998. He later joined the law firm
of International Business Legal Associates in a
project of legal consultancy to Jordan's
Government on accession to the World Trade
Organization. Omar was involved in a number of
USAID funded legal consultancy to the Government
of Jordan on trade liberation projects and
accession to the WTO. As such, he has extensive
experience and training on WTO-related legal
issues. He was also responsible for the legal
consultancy that enabled the creation of Aqaba
Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA). During
this period, he became familiar with policy work
and virtually all WTO agreements and legislation
relevant to international trade since his work
involved actually drafting legislation compliant
with WTO agreements. When Omar joined Al Tamimi
& Co., he advised on intellectual property for
industries, including tobacco, pharmaceuticals,
Foodstuffs, FMCG. His experience in the field of
intellectual property enabled him to train
police officers and custom officials on the
legal provisions regulating role of public
officials during the course of intellectual
property enforcement. Omar is also particularly
strong on pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and
acts for the pharmaceutical Researchers and
Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) comprising of
over 100 pharmaceutical in the Middle East.
Mr. Obeidat is a member of many groups
and associations in the UAE and also
internationally including Dubai Quality Group,
Arab Society for Intellectual Property, Jordan
Bar Association. Omar sits as member of MEASA
Subcommittee for Legislation Analysis in the
International Trademarks Association (INTA). On
legislative side, Omar helped UAE Government
through commenting on a number of laws including
Consumer Protection, Intellectual Property and
Customs. On the commercial side, Omar assisted
clients in protecting their interests against
parallel imports, contraband products and false
advertisement and unfair commercial practices.
He also drafted many license, distributorship
and agency agreements.
Omar is author to many publications and speaks
in most key regional events. Omar is member to
many organizations including International
Trademarks Association, Brand Protection Group,
Dubai Quality Group, Licensing Executive
Society-Arab Countries.
